How many of you will know that in sector 3, Bucharest, we have a neighborhood called… India? Not many, I guess.
We’ve been there, and, behind an apparent wilderness, we found people – poor, wounded, pushed outside society. They are human beings, each having joys, sadnesses and expectations. These unfortunate souls formed families and improvised small homes, with no documents, and on a land that they don’t even own. Most of them are uneducated, roughened by the conditions they grew up and lived. But every single one of them deserves to receive hope and the chance of a new beginning.
The name says everything about what the place looks like. India it is actually a nickname the locals invented to describe a place were homeless built shelters to survive. Most of the Bucharest people have no clue this place even exists. Those who know… are scared to even think at the possibility of getting there, crossing its ”border”..
Their children are amazing. There are about 50 of them. In spite of a tough life… they are full of joy and so expressive! We’ve had a wonderful time just being with them, visiting their houses and learning their names or hearing their stories.
We want to bring hope in India. And we will need your help for that!
